I think the configuration on awesome is hard as hell, and the documentation is far from helpful, maybe caused it has changed so many times, I don't know. So Im now giving dwm a try, and I love it, except that I really really mis a system tray for pidgin, deluge etc.. If a patch fails like that you can either revert to your previous state ( before patched ) or manually patch following the *.rej files.
